Shakespearian Riddles!
Quick Description
Need a challenge for world book day?
This is a task for learners who are confident reading Shakespearian English.
Prior Knowledge
For the easier challenge:
-
Squaring (and rooting), cubing (and rooting).
-
The first few primes
For the harder challenge:
-
(5, 12, 13) Pythagorean triple.
-
Fibonacci sequences.
Instructions
I strongly suggest teachers familiarise themselves with the language being used, and work through the task beforehand. For both tasks the first paragraph has clues relating to 'my number', and the second paragraph has clues relating to 'your number'. The third paragraph then contains instructions on what to do with these numbers.
Both activities then require pupils to convert their answer into Roman numerals, and perhaps a few examples could be displayed on the board and a few hints could be given on how to read the text!
Solution (easier) - my number is equal to 0, and your number is equal to 3. This would be written as 'III'.
Solution (harder) - both 'my number' and 'your number' are rounded to 200. After the division we have 1, which is multiplied to 80, and written as 'LXXX'.
